86ʼd explores the work of the New York City waitress. Through complicated poetic verse, we learn about a life in service. Diana Arnoldʼs autobiographical retelling of life with a father living with cerebral palsy lets us get to know the woman taking our order.
This narrative touches upon the difficulty of reconciling life within a restaurant with the life that occurs outside of one. Both poignant and comedic, 86ʼd is told in a unique style of conversational verse with internal rhyme that draws its audience in and shows us how restaurants have truly saved this waitressʼs life.
